Was watching it again last night for the umpteen time. I just wondered do you think Michael loved Kay more than Apollonia, did he want to marry Kay only because he wanted children, and/or he just wanted Kay because Apollonia was killed?

I'd have to have a beer at a bar to REALLY get in depth on the discussion of the Godfather but a quick thought, maybe he just married Kay because:

A) he felt guilty of stringing her along

B ) he had a void to fill in his love life after Apollonia died.

I don't know why children would have anything to do with it unless he brings it up at some point that I just can't remember.

he married appolonia because of the thunderbolt man.

big thing in sicily. the whole family and tradition and morals and all that.

he wasnt sure if he would ever go back to the states.

but once she died, he went back with kay.

i think her death kind of killed the good young guy war hero part of him, and unleashed the demon michael.

also children are a big part of it.

theyre a cog in "this sicilian thing!!!"

Was children a big part of it before Vito got shot and turned Michael from sweet "keep me out of the family business" guy to revenge michael?

I don't think he married Apollonia for the father's sake. I do agree that he may have thought he wouldn't get back to the states. However, he tells Kay he was in America for a year before seeing her. It would seem he didn't feel guilty what had happened between them but just got around to filling that void again.

It's actually a trip to see Pacino nail younger Michael and then when he is old he is the obnoxious Al we all know.

I watched Heat the other day and it blows my mind how he is acclaimed and his spazzing out is considered good acting. I'd be scared to watch Two for the Money or Any Given Sunday again.

agreed, and i think that's what turned off so many people to the film. in parts 1 and 2, michael was cold and calculating, but always in control. number 3 he was a totally different person in that same role. it didn't play well.
