The point is to trade for these guys, hopefully for players who really aren't in your plans for 2014 and beyond. 

 

That way, the team can keep their early round selections in the MLB entry draft, instead of giving them to other teams.

You're right about planning for future considerations and protecting the draft, but the Angels will surely get a protected pick. What are the rules there? Bottom 10 get protected 1st round? Are there any rules about the 2nd round?

Only the first round top 10 picks are protected.

If they signed a good FA, then the second round pick is forfeited.

the angels org needs to figure out what its doing and if it wants to win.

complete rebuild of farm/ mlb team? or just keep signing free agents? a total philosophy change?

stand pat and watch the gate receipts continue to pile up?

as a business, they are sucessful (bottom line) so what do they care whether they win or not?

a good analogy to the angels org at this point is a ship without a rudder.
