Pujols DL bound, perhaps?

Recommended Posts

Or maybe, just maybe, Pujols is a quality teammate who obviously has been truly injured all season and has been doing his best to live up to the contract he signed.  He tried to do what he was paid and he did it until his body wouldn't let him anymore which is more then can be said for so-called stars on other teams.  My only complaint with Pujols is he should sought rest/help sooner when it was obvious he couldn't play on it anymore.

I agree but I'm not really going to raise a large complaint over him trying to stick it out as long as he has. He obviously could still play on it looking at his July numbers for instance. It's one of those things that can be always bad but sometimes worse than others. For a guy who has had the kind of career Pujols has, and wanting to be the producer he's expected to be, it's not hard to understand why he would want to tough it out to try to contribute. Did he wait too long, maybe, but July's numbers seem to indicate otherwise.

Thanks Albert.

Scioscia on Pujols: "I've never seen a player do everything he can until the last drop of his body is used up b4 considers going on DL."

More Scioscia on Pujols: "He can play at a high level and still be productive with 50-60 percent of his health."

Que the Barbaro health update video.

Very courageous but he pretty much stunk it up in April, May and June. Oh and he's a .321 career hitter in July so his current July numbers pale in comparison.

Maybe someone more educated in this sort of injury could enlighten me, but how is it that Pau Gasol tore his plantar fascia this past season, only to return 6 weeks later, in a far more physically demanding sport?   All indications with Pujols seem to imply that he will be off his feet for a significantly longer period of time.

This type of injury has all kinds of degrees of severity.  It all depends on how badly it's torn, where it's torn, the condition of the person, etc.  Each patient is different, it takes a foot specialist to diagnose and treat it.  I've had it, and a foot specialist cured it without surgery, but it is a painful injury.  I have no idea, even if it were moderate in form, how someone could travel, play baseball everyday, and just walk around every day.  It can screw up your knee or hip as well because you try to compensate for the pain.  Tim Salmon said it best, "it's like having a nail in your heel, and walking around on it."

This says alot about Pujols and how much of a competitor he is. Even with all the numbers he put up, MVP's & Championships, he still wants to play everyday and compete even if he's playing on one foot. I have a ton of respect for him

He very rarely goes on the DL.

But in this case, looks like it was unavoidable.    Hope he comes back 100%.

I would rather of had him go on the DL earlier in the season making the chances of him playing part of the year healthy much more of a reality. I'll take 2 months of a healthy Pujols over half a season of Ghost Pujols.

Here is the Fox Sports article on the DL placement. The author raises the possibility that he may be done for the year, but I don't know whether this is idle speculation or whether it is based upon something found during his exam.

I do, too.

Anyone ripping the guy today for not going on the DL earlier in the season is a jackass.

I don't think anyone is ripping him for not going on the DL earlier. I think people are more disappointed with the management for not placing on the DL earlier.
