Can we all agree that Jerome Williams...

Jerome seems to work well out of the pen.  A decent long guy and spot starter for short periods.  If he ends up in the rotation for too long he seems to fall off a bit.  Almost like too much rest makes the sinker a little flat.

Also, there is a different mentality knowing you are going to pitch every five days as opposed to having to be ready to go at a moments notice if the starter can't keep it together.

he's having a down period right now, but he's been one of our better pitchers the last two years, whether that be starting or out of the bullpen. cut the guy some slack, at least he's done more than the angels have asked of him, there are very few angels right now that can stake that claim.

This exactly.

He's been in the rotation full time since June 22 and he has 1 quality start over that span. He is 0-5 with a 8.90 ERA and a 2.01 WHIP in those 7 starts.

Yeah, the excuse that he is being "misused" is no longer relevant. He has been absolutely awful for over a month now. It's clear that he is best suited for long relief. I thought he could cut it as a number 5 but he obviously can't.

A Victim? His past 3 or 4 starts hes been almost Joe Blanton awful

He gave up runs in the first two innings, then nothing for the next three last night. I hardly consider that "Blanton awful". It's not like he was being cuffed around all night, He recovered from a rough beginning and kept his team in the game, not letting them fall farther behind. The offense got nothing after the first inning until the game was already gone. Two meaningless runs in the ninth after the deficit had grown to four.

He gave up 4 ER in 5 innings.

That might not be "Blanton awful", but that's pretty awful.

well, I said the same thing coming out of Spring Training (essentially that Jerome Williams is a 4-A pitcher) and got blasted here for saying that -- which is OK -- that's partially why this site exists to give (and have tested) your opinions on roster issues.......

And, to be fair, given the state of the Halos rotation (Blanton, PUH-LEASE!) , Williams has been very much needed in that '4-A' role this year.

But at the end of the day, Williams is really a 4-A pitcher.

He has carved out a pretty nice MLB career for himself that started out (as least what I can remember) in SF with the Giants some years ago.

For the Halos really to get back to being a perennial contender (and let's face it folks, it's been this season and last season, at least, where they would not be classified as such and perhaps the prior season as well -- they've gone from compiling AL West titles to second and third place finishes -- thank goodness Houston is in the Division this year or the Halos could finish dead last in the AL West)....they really have to get a better than average MLB starting rotation -- something they have not had all season.
