Songs I hate

Unfortunately heard my first Avenged Sevenfold song the other day. Sounded like a Metallica tribute band.

I think their guitar players are sick, but don't like them, haven't heard much outside of guitar work, and don't own any albums.

thanks for enabling me to rediscover Underoath, Brandon. I had listened to their early stuff a few years ago and wrote them off because I felt they screamed too much. I just listened to one of their later albums and it has a pretty good balance. Maybe a little too much screaming at times but musically its sound so its tolerable. I don't know if its a masterpiece but there's definitely some solid tracks on this album.

just sampled the YouTube videos, tdawg. I don't think I'll ever convert to enjoying those types of growls but to each their own. I also like music that most others would find bizarre, hence the opera metal/symphonic metal that was talked about earlier.

They actually were probably the proponents for expanding into that genre. I never cared for anything that hard or with that vocal style outside of really being in the mood. But their album, They're Only Chasing Safety, had kind of a catchy element...I refuse to call it poppy. But the main thing is the musicianship quality is there and actually gets so much better as they grow, but not as catchy. Maybe when you're a Christian hardcore band you're married to the band instead of the normal loser antics bands I've seen or been a part of had done.

I think they get a bad rap for kind of pioneering that sound, while most don't think about bands like Converge. They got popular then were kind of hated for being the image for the sound.

They're stuff is still top notch to me. It's just really well crafted and also produced, which I think Adam of Killswitch Engage did two of their albums.

But glad you checked them out again from here. I may do the same.

which two Killswitch Engage albums would you recommend? I sampled some of their music before but maybe I wasn't listening to the right albums.

I can't think of any one song that I hate.  I can think of song that I roll my eyes to (Beyonce, Rihanna, etc...) but hate?  Not really...I grew up to my Dad blowing a gasket because I listened to the Turtles...lol (Those guys look like girls with their long hair!) Good music is in the ear of the beholder, so to speak. I like a lot of different kinds of music, tolerate the rest, but don't really hate much...weird

I meant Adam from Killswitch produced the two albums (I think) after the one you like...their harder and more complex with their writing and timing.

I only got into one Killswitch album, and I think it's their most popular...I know they had a popular song from the album. Check out End of Heartache and let me know what you think. It's a similar aggression and catchy kind of sound, but little to no screaming. I like it, maybe you will as well.

Bad vocals ruin alot of metal for me - take Children of Bodom for example - Alexi is such a great guitarist I can almost forgive his horrid vocals - fast forward to the solos and be amazed

I thought it was something else. When we've been in the studio, my men's chorus has used pro tools at times to help correct some pitch issues, and I thought autotune was like that.
