Garza to miss start tonight...(Traded to Texas Rangers)

Because a deal with the Rangers is imminent!

 

As it appears the Angels will under-achieve yet again, I will adopt the A's and Pirates to root for into the playoffs (along with my Dirtbag friends with the Rays and Nats).

 

Do you think the Angels should try to make some deals?  I'd rather ride it out, without any huge deals.  Unless it's dumping some pitching for prospects. There's a lot wrong with this team, though they can turn it on at times.

I'm perfectly fine with this. I'm just glad the Angels haven't made a serious push for him (or maybe they did?)

Either way, no rentals. This year's team is going nowhere so we may as well sit tight and hope the current team can continue their May through July win pace next year.

We don't have the minor league talent to get a significant rental this year....so it really isn't an issue...

Hey, it's better than throwing money at yet another nearly washed up hitter.

Arte's gonna do it, just at least do it on a pitcher for next season.   It worked so far (for the most part) with Wilson.

Rangers problem lately has been due to lack of hitting more than pitching.

But it should help them short term getting Garza.

Edwards is looking to be the real deal; he's putting up a 1.83 ERA in 93 IP as a starter in A ball.  Not too shabby.  Him alone is worth it for the Cubs IMO.

Hope it's not us -- let the Rangers over-pay for a rental.........we've been there, done that.  Enough.

 

Although, to be fair -- Rangers, 3 games out right now - should be buyers with the situation they are in with respect to the current standings.

 

Expect Garza to get hit hard at Arlington, though.

Garza a 2 month rental? This trade seems like something Reagins or Dipoto would do. Eventually it catches up like it has this year.

Man, seeing that deal, I wish the Angels would have offered something to the Rangers.  Prior to this year, Olt was looking real good as a 3B.  And Edwards looks like one of those future bets like the Angels gave up for their rentals.

These kind of deals killed the Angels after a long successful decade from 2002-2009.  I don't want to see the Angels make these kinds of deals for a long time. We need to improve the farm system.

Have not the rental deals hurt the current/future standing of the franchise? 

1)  Make darned sure that if you do a rental deal, that the chances of getting to the post-season are very good or that the chances of resigning acquired player are very good (preferably when the trade happens), not like it was a year ago where we never were truly close enough and Greinke was anything BUT a sure thing to sign.

 

2)  if you are going to trade TWO good lefty prospects to get a veteran pitcher, please make sure you are seriously in a race and not like we were in late July 2010.   Preferably, two good lefty pitching prospects should NEVER, EEEEVER be traded at once.

This is a fantastic trade for the Angels. Rangers deplete their farm system, get 0 draft compensation for Garza and, even if he resigns with Texas, they will only get him at a market rate contract.

Best news all season for the future of the Angels' chances to reclaim the AL West in the future.
