GAME 97 - MARINERS AT ANGELS

ANAHEIM – If the Seattle Mariners wondered if the Angels were truly a different team than the one that finished 41 games out in 2001, they are wondering no more.

The Angels completed a three-game sweep of the Mariners with a 7-5 victory before 34,945, moving to within one game of the first-place Mariners in the A.L. West.

The Mariners again had an early lead, going up 4-1 in the fourth. But the Angels scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth innings, and added a two-run seventh for good measure.

Garret Anderson’s RBI double in the seventh gave the Angels the lead for good. Jose Molina had three hits for the Angels, and Anderson, Scott Spiezio and Adam Kennedy had two apiece.

Angels starter Jarrod Washburn wasn't at his best, giving up five runs and eight hits in seven innings, but stuck around long enough to earn the victory, improving to 12-2.
