Evidently the market isn't great....Heyman mentions in his article that we have been interested in the past.....Obviously we aren't buyers at this point so you would be looking long term....given our pitching depth (none), might be worth considering if you could get a contract worked out prior to any deal....not sure how you make a deal with little minor league depth to trade...somebody from the big league roster? Ianetta?...that wouldn't get it done....don't know...

Damn did Arte save us on that one.

He did...but (if the stories are true) he then screwed things up by getting involved with Pujols and Hamilton....so, on balance, you probably need to let the baseball people do their jobs....

I think he's an interesting guy as an FA.

Wouldn't trade for him at this point unless you can get him for close to nothing though

Fair point but, if he gets a qualifying offer and is a Type A free agent, you would give up a 1st round draft pick to sign him this winter....so, if you could get him relatively cheaply (not sure what that would be), might be better than giving up a 1st round pick next year....dunno....

Wait for free agency and take a look at him. He is a flyball pitcher which would fit into this year's theme. As a 4th/5th starter he wouldn't be a bad choice, probably. If they could get him back to throwing his cutter that he threw in his strong 2009 season that might be a positive towards getting more value out of him.

That's a big 'if'.

Would he even qualify as a type A FA?   His ERA since 2012 is 4.35, and his WHIP is 1.27.

Granted, he has made just about every scheduled start in that time, but is only averaging right at 6 innings/start.

If he isn't a type A, he might be a worthy gamble in converting back to the bullpen.

His one full season as a reliever (2009) produced really solid numbers.

I think he'd be a great gamble in FA. I wouldn't pay too much for him, but he has a strong K/BB rate and is an extreme flyball pitcher, which fits the mold that Dipoto has been pursuing (not sure that is actually a point in his favor). What I find encouraging is that is road numbers are much better than his home numbers. He is no top-of-the-rotation guy, but as a potential #5 starter replacement for Tommy Hanson or Blanton, the Halos could do a lot worse, depending on the price, obviously.

He probably won't get a qualifying offer as the Yankees just want to be rid of him. They're also shopping Joba and want bats in return.

I say wait until the offseason, try to get him on an incentivized contract. He is not as bad a pitcher as he looks in the Gazebo. Of course, having pitched there for so long might be in his head.
