The TV announcers - not just singling one out - made me laugh this morning.  First off they were gushing all over Westwood, how great he has been never won a major, playing brilliantly.  He's distancing himself from Tiger.  His short game has been terrific.

 

He bogeys 7 and 8.  Short game falters

 

So the focus then goes on Adam Scott.  He's the new leader.  He has a 2 stroke lead with 6 to go.  He's finally figured out how to win a major and now he's on a roll.  He's been playing brilliantly.  This is a great story.

 

His putting goes south, three putts and can't make a putt and loses the lead

 

Tiger is catching up standing still!  He's only one stroke back and is playing better than earlier.

Our new leader is Phil.  He has played brilliantly birding three holes down the stretch.......

 

It was an exciting major tourney and fun to watch, but these guys should wait until it's over to tell us great so and so played.

True... but the course also played that way, where the players were owning the course for a couple holes until the wind changed or they rolled off the green.  I still think Johnny Miller is one of the most negative commentators out there.

To me it was very clear that a 1 to 3 stroke lead is nothing on those courses especially with the back nines being as difficult as they are.  At the Masters there is an old saying, "The tournament does not begin until the back 9 on Sunday."

 

There was no reason to gush and foam about the mouth on the leader for the moment when the leadership is so dynamic.  It is just silly.

 

And, yes Johnny Miller is very negative.

ESPN was dying for one story to develop during the final round. When a course as tough as that causes a rollercoaster effect on the storylines, that is what you get.
