The Open Championship

Recommended Posts

I love The Open, but I can't rank it against the other Majors because They're all different.  The Masters is played on hallowed golfing ground, that is finally being updated to todays' standards.  The US Open is great because of its' Democracy; in that amateurs can qualify.  The course set-up is always so penal, it's the ultimate test.  The PGA Championship is my least favorite, and I wouldn't mind if it was always played at Sawgrass.

The Open might be my favorite, because I play a British-Isles style of golf.  I hit a lot of knock-downs, and always putt from around the green when able.

I'm headed to Dublin, Ireland in a few weeks and hope to get in a couple rounds there and possibly in Scotland too!

This isn't really relevant to this conversation but...

While at the airport rental counter in Milwaukee three guys walked in with golf club luggage bags, one of them with a Ferrari hat.  They rented a Range Rover... My guess is they were heading up to Whistling Straits.  Anyway one thing I noticed is one of the guys golf bags had the ANGC logo on it.  It was like this but green with the ANGC logo on it.

I was up at o-dark-thirty this morning.  I've played about 40+ courses there and until you do, it's impossible to tell you how difficult they are.  For starters, on almost every hole, you need a drive in excess of 200 yds. and straight to avoid the "love grass*."

* "Love grass?" I asked my caddy, "Is that what you call it?"  He replied with a straight face, "Yup, when you hit it in there, you're fooked."
