Had we made zero moves since 2010, the Angels team would look something like this:

We would also likely have a few more good players in pipeline in the minors due to not giving up several first round draft picks. All this for ~$650M fewer contract dollars.

 

A not insignificant number of fans (myself included) felt the Angels should have gone through a mini rebuild cycle after the 2010 season, rather than the series of Steinbrenner-esque moves that left us in our current situation.

The spending isn't the issue, it's how it's being spent.

The Kazmir trade was the first hint of a bunch of bad moves to follow.

I hope this entire team looks at the mirror during the ASB and comes out angry!

Kaz wasn't a bad trade outside of money.  S Rod didn't turn into anything.  What is Torres doing after all these years?

 

Haren which ironically everyone thought we fleeced Diamondbacks at the time turned into the disasterous trade.  That plus losing draft picks killed us.

Putting up a 0.34 ERA with a 33/9 K/BB ratio and 7 hits allowed in 26.1 IP out of the Rays pen.

 

And Sean Rodriguez isn't much, but he is an adequate utility guy.
