Bumpus Jones' record is still safe. He's the only pitcher in history to throw a no-hitter in his ML debut. It was the last day of the 1892 season, and the last time the pitcher's mound was 50 feet from home plate.

Bumpus went downhill from there. He got beaned the following Spring and retired after the 1893 season, having appeared in only seven games in his short career. But he still has the best pitching debut of all time.
