even if they had the pieces to pull off a big acquisition at the deadline, it wouldn't be advisable given the current state of affairs.  Best thing to do is see if this group can pull it off in the second half, and if not, you make your assessments and changes in the offseason.  Trade deadline deals almost always favor the team looking to improve in the long term.

And to be blunt, we don't have ENOUGH minor league pieces to make any July deal work.

Given how the past couple of July trades worked out, that's probably for the best.
