GAME 80 - DODGERS AT ANGELS

ANAHEIM – John Lackey followed up Aaron Sele’s gem with one of his own, earning his first major league victory in the Angels’ 5-1 win over the Dodgers before 43,509 at Edison Field.

Unlike Sele, Lackey did not throw a complete game, but he was nearly as effective, giving up one run and five hits in six innings. The Dodgers’ only run scored on an RBI groundout by Mark Grudzielanak in the sixth inning.

Ben Weber took the ball from Lackey to start the seventh and retired all nine batters he faced, throwing three perfect innings in relief and earning his first save of the season.

The Angels had seven hits in the game, the big blow being Benji Gil’s three-run home run in the second inning off Dodgers starter Odalis Perez. The win moved the Angels to withing 3 ½ games of first-place Seattle in the A.L. West.
