Well, for the month of June (including this game), Blanton had a 3.44 ERA and a 0.912 WHIP in 34 IP.  Not too bad.

I thought the signing was a good deal at the time and have maintained since then I thought Dipoto made the right decision. He is our best pitcher. He would get my vote to start game 1 if we made the playoffs.

I'd say props to Dipoto, but I still don't like the signing.  Props to the Angels organization for sticking with him.  

 

You see it every year.  On every team.  A guy starts the season poorly... or very well... and people overreact.  Granted, it is sometimes a sign that the end is near, but if you are a manager, gm, etc.... you can't just play the hot hand all the time.  Easy for fans to go off about it, but it is unrealistic.

 

Blanton is gonna cool off.   Fans will get on his (and Dipoto's... and Scioscia's)  case again.  It is a never ending cycle.

Blantana is still a cool name, and it will work for any future pitching matchups between Joe Blanton and Ervin Santana.

He's still giving up a home run every start, but they haven't been killers.  Hamilton saved his bacon today, though.  I'm really surprised at how he's been racking up the K's.  He's looked solid his last few starts.  Hopefully he can keep on like that the rest of the season.  They really need him to stay consistent with Vargas out.
