Iannetta kinda sucks

No I said that he's a good back-up catcher for our Angels. There are some MLB teams that have at least two catchers that are better than Iannetta.

Like who? Braves carry 3 catchers and last time I checked, Chris was better than Laird. I could see Red Sox, but Ross is pretty similar to Ianetta

You would rather have fat Dioner Navarro than CI? Of those teams, I agree with none. I will concede, that id rather have Hanigan and Mesoraco than CI, but they arent that much of an upgrade

Iannetta has been ok offensively.  Good for a catcher.   His OPS+ is 105 for the Angels, compared to 99 for the Rockies.   I was hoping for more power, but overall he's been fine.  "Defense" is another matter.  Disappointed on that end.

Comparing  him to Jeff Mathis is kinda silly.   Mathis was terrible.  Compare him to his peers. Legitimate major leaguers.

Iannetta was a cheap, solid option at a position in which the Angels had a huge weakness. Was he the best choice? No, but he has only "sucked" if you compare him to the elite catchers in the game. He has put up a .720+ OPS and a 2.2 WAR at the position since coming here. Considering his contract and what it took to get him I'd say that's pretty damn good.

I'm with you.   The catching position seems MUCH more settled than it did a couple years ago.  Conger is showing he belongs and getting more comfy behind the plate.   Offensively,  they both bring something to the table.

Considering that Mathis was the predecessor to Iannetta and people are complaining about production, unfortunately the comparison isn't silly. On any other club it wouldn't even be necessary. Most MLB teams would have cut Mathis. We started him. The Marlins are using him in the only role that should ever have been considered for him, spot starter to give their regular catcher a day off every now and then. His usefulness even in that role is debatable, given that his batting average is probably close to what most of the guys on this board would put up if they faced major league pitching.
