Tom Verducci Exclusive Interview with Arte Moreno

Verduci had his questions and they were not about the minor leagues. So you are looking for a topic that you want to talk about, great, but it had nothing to do with the focus of this interview.

If you’re doing an all-encompassing interview with Arte, I think the minor leagues should come up.

Even in mainstream media, the state of the Angels minor league system comes up.

- One of the worst farm systems in baseball. And at one point the worst.

- Not paying acceptable minor league wages during/around the pandemic.

- Furloughing staff during the pandemic.

- Subpar minor league housing.

- International players suing the team.

And I’d consider it an all-encompassing interview, given the interview took place during two games, per the OCR.

If they don't make the playoffs, they lose ohtani and perry probably gets fired.  And we're starting all over again.  I really want to see what Minasian can do with a few seasons of similar control.

Yep.

I figured it’d be the case even before I saw this article, but this cements it.

For once, Arte’s listening to his GM. But if it doesn’t work out, I have no doubt that he’ll essentially say “your way didn’t work either, so I’m taking over again.” He’s not patient.

But Verducci wasn't. He was doing the interview he wanted to discuss not what all encompassing topics you think he should have addressed. Limited time and access is always part of interviews so limit the scope of the topic and the most relevant topic that Verducci wanted was answers were the reason for putting the team up for sale and then backing out.

The OCR said Verducci conducted the interview “during two games at Tempe Diablo Stadium.”

Doesn’t seem to me like time was limited.

Because answers are not in the article doesn’t mean questions weren’t asked

I'm about 99.9% certain that the article would have said something like, "Moreno declined to answer when asked about X," etc. if that were the case.

Well, it’s impossible for us to know if he asked and Arte didn’t answer.

Yes, but the article doesn’t include some tough questions many would like the answers to and it’s easy to be critical of it for that reason.  The questions or topics may be negotiated beforehand, and questions not answered.

Even if the topic was off limits to begin with?

If that’s the case, then the publication should say that.

It seems to me that divulging details about the kind of offers you got to sell the team would be more off limits than answering a couple questions about the minor leagues.

Verducci didn't want to talk about the minors leagues, thickhead. The rest of baseball doesn't care about the Angels minor leagues, they want to know why Moreno backed out of selling the Angels. This is a national audience story.

Yet some of the ghouls here think Sam Blum is an a-hole for reporting that Arte refuses to talk with Angels beat reporters.
