I miss that one guy Stam I think. He was a Ranger fan who always posted smack here. I think he left after the Rangers blew the WS  against the Cardinals.

I'd kill for someone to track down his YouTube video when he was talking shit about Angels fans.

And I gave kudos when he said goodbye here, and called us all fart sniffers.

Could anyone see a scenario where the Angels go slightly above the threshold with a couple bullpen pieces and a guy like Sanchez only to trade Shohei at the deadline if they aren’t playing well which would get them below the threshold by the end of the year?

They've got a bunch of potential deadline salary dumps this year.   After the july 31st deadline there is about 1/3rd of the season.   Renfroe, Urshela, Tepera, Loup.  All players that could actually be useful deadline bait.  Probably including whoever they sign to go over the threshold as well.  So somewhere in the range of 10-15m in potential savings without moving Ohtani.  I just don't think they're gonna move Shohei if there is even a 1% chance they could get him to stay.  So unless he outright says he's moving on after the year, they'll keep him.

Not with Arte as the owner.

Going slightly over knowing you could make mid-season trades to dip back under makes sense.

Maybe it’s just the principal of the thing or it’s too logical, but it just doesn’t strike me as something that Arte would do.

I just don’t see them going over the luxury tax to sign any of the remaining free agents or any combination of the remaining free agents

Arte has always said he’d go over for the “right player.” He’s never done it since he’s said that, and would Chafin, Moore, Sánchez, or Wacha really be the right player?
