Like I said, he gets the team ready to compete each day, but ultimately he’s at the mercy of minasian. Dave Roberts is the definition of a yes man. If it weren’t for that payroll and roster talent he’s essentially making the same analytical decisions as dictated by the front office as other teams. If he weren’t coaching that team, he wouldnt have a stable job in the league.

"Gets along well with the players" is 80% of the job.   Clubhouse harmony.  Trout respects him and sanctioned  Nevin's promotion.

That's really all "you" need to know.

As far as analytics go,  we all use Analytics in our daily lives to make informed decisions, but very few people let analytics override every thing else we learned along the way. 
 

Always remember that "analytics" didn't save the passengers on US Airways flight 1549.   The pilot did.

Yeah.  Especially managers that intentionally walk guys with the bases loaded.  Players love those decisions
