OC Register: Angels reportedly parting ways with hitting coach Jeremy Reed

Recommended Posts

Angels hitting coach Jeremy Reed, who oversaw a group that was 25th in the majors in runs, will not return to the staff in 2023, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Angels have not confirmed the decision. General manager Perry Minasian said immediately after the season that he and manager Phil Nevin would evaluate the coaching staff, but he put no timetable on the decisions.

Reed spent four seasons as the Angels hitting coach, following two-year stint at the team’s roving minor league hitting coordinator. He previously coached in the Milwaukee Brewers system and spent eight seasons playing in the majors.

Reed came under fire in 2022 because of the team’s collective failures at the plate. The Angels struck out more than any other team in the majors, and they ranked 24th in batting average and 26th in on-base percentage.

Players like Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh failed to reach their perceived offensive potential with the Angels, and Marsh was traded.

Other players, like Max Stassi and Jared Walsh, had offensive breakthroughs in previous years, but then struggled in 2022.

Taylor Ward and Luis Rengifo were two of the Angels’ offensive success stories. Each had his best offensive season in 2022.

Reed is a product of Bonita High and Long Beach State.
