In 2017, Simmons had the second highest single season dWAR ever of 5.1. Second only to the 1906 SS Terry Turner's 5.4.

Looking at Fangraphs DRS (Defensive Runs Saved), his 2017 number of 41 is the highest single season ever among any position going back to 1871.

So yeah, he's pretty good with the glove. And we got him when he had the best defensive season ever recorded, statistically.

Someone will get a bargain next season, if he wants to continue his career on a minor league contract with a camp invite. 

We could, and have, done worse for a utility player.
