Reasonable.

So you’d keep Nevin?

Eh.  I don't really have a sense of Nevin yet, so I'm ambivalent.  It wouldn't surprise me at all if he's the manager next season, though, for the reason I mentioned above.  It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to bring in another manager who will likely be gone after next season, assuming the sale doesn't get done quickly.

Assuming that Minassian sticks around, and if Mattingly has what they’re looking for, I think a deal could be easily enough reached regardless of the ownership situation. But that uncertainty might scare off some candidates, too. I’m okay with Nevin as the fallback option for another year, if necessary.

With change of ownership coming Angels will not sign a manager for more than 1 year. I see Nevin back in 2023 on a 1-year deal.

Montgomery will take the job.  Minasian will finally get full influence over the roster and put together the team he wants.  Including the coaches.  I'm not implying that means we're gonna start winning all of a sudden.  Just that he'll offer Montgomery the job and they won't lose 90 games or more next year so he'll look good on paper.  It'll be a nice opening salvo for Ray regardless of what new ownership does.  And in a lot of situations, new owners won't gut the front office.  So Minasian essentially has one last chance here.  If the team doesn't show something positive next year, they will move on.

Sounds like Eppler-Ausmus revisited.

Also, he was managing the Marlins, not some perennial juggernaut

They were outscored by 41 runs that year.  Their projected record based on run differential was 26-34-- which is the same record the Angels had in 2020, coincidentally.  They ended up going 31-29, so there was definitely some luck/overachieving involved.

This is my assumption as well.
