Dune: Pretty fucking awesome. It was pretty much everything I'd hoped it would be with some caveats. It's a big story and it's only half of that big story, which leaves it without the classic three act structure designed to culminate in a satisfying climax. The "end" of this first movie is treated much more like a mid point in a story than a climax. It's an important point in the story but it isn't given the attention that it deserved as an "ending" in my opinion.

Also, having read the book there is a lot of world building that is easily missed in the movie, which I imagine makes immersion in the world a little difficult for those unfamiliar with the material.

That said, everything else is pretty much perfect. Go see it in theaters, I saw it last night and there were like 8 people in the theater, which is a shame because that means we'll probably never see the conclusion.

I agree with everything you said.

This film was absolutely jaw dropping in IMAX. It's definitely made to be seen in theaters.

9/10.

I enjoyed it.  Although I will say that there were portions where the editing seemed off.  Like they made a whole big plot scene, but cut it down due to time constraints.  I may go watch it again, as I watched it on the small screen via HBO Max.  But definitely worth the watch.

Blacklist S8

Nearing the end of the season

Too far sucked into the plot to stop watching

Hopefully soon they will reveal the final pieces to the puzzle

Megan Boone has to be the worst actress they could have picked for Elizabeth

Terrible actress and it takes away from the rest of the show

She is so unbelievable in her role that it's a joke

I would bet this is the case. There's a decent amount of plot that is either glanced over or completely disregarded, most of it being political intrigue and character motivation.

I'd definitely be interested if there's a version that restored that stuff.

Whatever the case: damn good movie.

That scene when they are trying to evacuate the harvester and they encounter the first worm: holy crap. Amazing.

Yeah, the weakest part of Blacklist was Elizabeth from the very beginning.  Her swings really detract from her character.

It's like a 900 page novel and they're adapting 450 pages of it into a 2.5 hour film, and I can't really think of anything plot wise that they explicitly cut out. There just isn't a lot of time given to allow some scenes to breathe. I bet at some point we will see a 3 hour cut of this movie, which will be almost the same, just with a little more time left around things to allow the audience to think about a line of dialogue or a situation a character finds themselves in.

‘Dune’ $40M+ Domestic Opening Is Best For Warner Bros HBO Max Day/Date Title & Denis Villeneuve

Dune has easily become Denis Villeneuve’s biggest domestic opening at the box office, and the best start for Warner Bros. and an HBO Max day-and-date title with $40.1M. Business was actually better than many had anticipated for Saturday, -22% from Friday with $13.7M, sending the Frank Herbert feature adaptation ahead of tracking’s opening forecast of $30M-$35M.

This is also the 8th film from Warners to open at No. 1 this year. The pic overindexed in Villeneuve’s Canadian homeland, driving 11% of the gross where Dune resides on a theatrical window, sans HBO Max, since the OTT service isn’t available there yet.

It's funny how these experts are thinking that people will rush to the theaters with this pandemic.  And that HBO Max is the reason why it hasn't done as well at the box office.  They completely ignore how the Bond film didn't do well at the box office, even though it was not streaming.  I don't think we will see $100 million opening weekends for a while.  And when films are costing in upwards of $300 million just to make, that is a long term sustainability problem.

on saturday night i checked my amazon prime list and found Goliath, so i decided to watch and see how it looked. i was hooked pretty quickly. the ending to S1E2 was brutal and completely caught me off guard. got through E3, then told my wife about it sunday morning and we watched E1-5 together. This is a really good show. Cooperman (william hurt) and that clicker are bizarre. a lot of good plot twists and turns in this one. looking forward to watching more.

It's pretty good and consistent through the entire series.

Just keep in mind this is a David E Kelly show. It's not quite Ally McBeal level but it does go off the rails on occasion. As you go through the seasons you'll enjoy some of the actors that show up

@Tank are you still watching "A Million Little Things?"  I watched the first two episodes of S4 and I'm luke warm about it.  I put off watching it because I was sort of tired of it after last season...  I'm still not in any hurry to watch more.

you know, i haven't watched a single episode this season so far. i agree with you that every episode seemed to spend too much time staying in the same place as last weeks episode. it grew tiring. will the guy ever get out of the wheel chair? why or why not? will gary and the cute chick get back together or will he stay with the hot brunette with the kid? will the black couple ever get a child? i'm recording it and might watch it, but if it's just a rehash of where they've been for the last year, i'll likely pass. they need to move ahead.

i want to see the new Bond movie before they require us to show proof of vaccine.

Great movie. I actually want to see it again. I knew how long the movie was going into it and it felt like a breeze time wise which tells me how engaged I was and how the movie was just that good.

I think there will be some bias towards Casino Royale, but I am on the fence with many that think this was the best Bond flick of the Daniel Craig era.

Finishes S1 of Goliath. Ended just as you hoped it would though I didn’t think there was enough compelling evidence presented in court by Billy. The lawyer Callie was one of the most detestable characters I can remember. What a truly horrible person.

Started S2 immediately afterwards. Looks promising.

Really good show

Some dark, deep drama at times

He gets way out there and comes back
