I thought it was all a bit too convenient and contrived. I really cannot see a violent offender in a psych ward being allowed to join normal activities after he'd just violently assaulted a policewoman and just revealed his amnesia and good behaviour to be suspect. I also don't think there would be somewhere to hide and wait in a psych ward cool-down room, or that one would walk offenders past staff lockers. A slightly disappointing end to a fantastic show.

 

we finished it tonight and really enjoyed the entire 3 seasons. i'd recommend it to anyone.

i agree about the issues at the psych facility. after he assaulted gillian anderson, he should not have been allowed to walk about freely. it clearly revealed that he had plenty of memory recall, too, since he went from docile to explosive in nothing flat. i also didn't understand for a second why the inmates were allowed to have a pool table with sticks and balls. that made zero sense to me. i wish they would have made an effort to wrap up the story line with his wife and daughter a little more, as well as what happened to katie the psycho.

Like I said in an earlier post the writers sometimes struggle with the endings after putting so much work into spinning the plot

Just finished it.  Thanks for the recommend.  It was an excellent 3 season show.  Pretty much a police drama.  Following the lead investigator and the main baddie.

Yeah, this is the first one I used CC on.  The adults were ok, but when you left the main characters, the kids especially were hard to understand.  And some of the other baddies also.

I think you have to remember, this is Britain, and not the US.  So they do things differently there.  Sweden is even stranger, you will have the mass murderers in what looks to be minimum security jails complete with a cell that a homeless person and college student would be jealous of.  

As for the hide and wait.  I think he hid in the attached bathroom, and not the room itself.

I think the whole point was that he was faking it.  And that Gillian caught him in the lie.  That's why he suddenly flipped.  He thought he could outsmart the system, since it was shown he had a genius level iq.  It actually plays to his character that he thought he could do whatever he wanted because he could outsmart everyone.  Only when he rushed his last victim, and had to kill the brother is where he made a mistake.  

 

Also, one final note.

I thought the hospital scenes were very interesting in that they are different than what is portrayed in US hospitals.  In the ER surgery, that the main surgeon is so hands off, and is really directing everyone on what to do instead of doing it himself.  

Also, that whole comment about their universal healthcare, where someone in the ER would have to wait a day or more for a MRI because all the times are taken up.

I can assure you that the psych hospital scenes were complete fantasy. Our facilities have cool-down rooms - they are padded and have nothing at all someone can hurt themselves on, so definitely nowhere to hide. And we are overwhelmed with Health and Safety protocols that wouldn't have allowed most of the things we saw in the final episode to happen. (Also, the local police would have given that guy an absolute kicking in the back of the transfer van for beating up a fellow officer - he would be peeing blood for a week.)

The MRI situation is genuine, we take the view on healthcare that we are all in this together and we all share paying for and using the facilities, so, in the best British tradition we have to queue for it, and we are really really good at queueing for things. I once waited 9 weeks to get an MRI on my knee - it wasn't urgent so I didn't mind the wait.
