The relationship with Zoe could have been written much better. The violence and breaking stuff so many times was unnecessary IMO.

Like many made for TV shows they took a lot of liberties with the script leaving many parts far fetched. I wouldn't be saying this if people said it was a good show. It was said that it was one of the best or favorite and I don't see that.

Watchmen

So I was able to track down the last half of this series and boy do I have issues. This series is undeniably a shot at greatness, and I would not be surprised to see this take home the Emmy for drama (mainly for its wokeness) but there are some huge missteps here. What starts out as a very creative take on racism and the 'super' hero genre ultimately degrades into an convoluted mess that steps all over it's message, destroying some classic characters in the process.

Spoiler

If I am going to single out one thing, it's the handling of Dr. Manhattan. The crux of his character in the comic is his declining ability to connect with people on a human level, yet here we are meant to believe that he could effectively reverse that and regain his humanity. The re-introduction of Dr. Manhattan into the story destroys virtually all relevance the rather intriguing white supremest story had going.

Marco Polo - I'm a few episodes into season 2 and enjoying it.  I haven't watched it for over a week though after reading it ended abruptly due to losing money and I expect story lines to remain unresolved.

The Last Dance - just finished this and held off on the last episode for almost week partly because I didn't want it to end.  I was born in the 80's and my earliest memories of the NBA started in the early 90's but when Jordan retired in 93 I wasn't paying attention to everything going on in his personal life or the drama with the Bulls just following his attempt at playing baseball.  I know this is sacrilege to admit to as a Laker fan born and raised in SoCal but back in the day when I collected cards I liked the Jazz because of Malone/Stockton.  I really wanted to see them beat the Bulls and thought they had a great chance in 98 yet after watching this series I only have more respect for the Bulls because of what they were going through and how tired they were at that point.  I always respected the hell out of Jordan and to this day I'll take prime Jordan over any other player I've seen play but I respect him even more now seeing that he doesn't apologize for who he is.  Yeah he was an asshole to teammates but he got the best out of them because of it and didn't want weak guys on his team regardless of what their role was.  During one of the episodes they talked about how he didn't back a black candidate in North Carolina and took flack for a comment he made that republicans buy shoes too.  His response was that it was a one liner comment made to a teammate and in so many words that he didn't care to comment on everything or take a position (he did donate to the guys campaign) and if people had a problem with it then they can find someone else to look up to.  Watching the series as we discussed in the thread that TORS started it only makes me wonder how the Bulls would have matched up against the Rockets in 94 and 95 and if they would have had another run in them in 99 if the team had been kept together.  I'd love to see a similar series about the Shaq/Kobe Lakers starting when Shaq signed through the loss to Detroit in 2004 but I don't know if they have footage like the they did for the Bulls since the Bulls had a film crew with them during the 98 season.

Avengement - I've been watching some random revenge and action flicks on Netflix and came across this one with Scott Adkins who's a B movie martial arts star.  Over the top violence and gore and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to kill an hour and a half with a popcorn flick.

Good show. Wish they would have another season. Benedict Wong play a great Kublai Khan.

I still haven't watched Last Dance, is it really interesting going beyond what we already know from following the league back in the day? I keep waiting for a wave of nostalgia to wash over me and get me to put it on.

I liked it. I watched it out of order, so to speak. I remember the series simply because of quarantine and everyone needing some semblance of sports or entertainment.

It checked out and is a good documentary. Worth it for anyone that is a basketball fan or grew up in that era like myself and Cat did.

To me it absolutely was but some of that is because of how much I followed sports in the 90's and how reporting was different back then.  I used to really like ESPN and was glued to the TV during summer when Shaq signed with the Lakers and still remember the feeling when ESPN broke the news.  Obviously following sports back then was different because until the internet became mainstream most of us got our sports news from ESPN, the sports segment of the local news channels and the newspaper while the latter is where I loved to check game stats, league leaders and league standings.  There's always drama but today with social media and non-stop reporting not only is everything out there but it's overkill even during the off season.   It is what it is but for me watching the series was definitely nostalgic and made me miss the basketball of the 90's and early 2000's.

Did the mention how he got his father murdered?

Funny thing about that.

I go down rabbit holes on YouTube and got around to the mob, former associates, retired from the life, etc. I saw a bunch of interviews with people associated with the mob gambling story and they all said it wasn't mob related. They said he was a heavy gambler, but Charles Barkley was way worse. Some met Jordan and gave some insight to his gambling, but they would have been in on it or known....based off the shit they talked about and admitted, killing Jordans dad was mild.

And because of the way YouTube algorithms work it gave me interviews and articles/stories about the two dudes that killed him. One guy in an interview was just straight up and said, "Look, that was a drug infested and impoverished area. We were headed down the highway to pick up drugs and we see a Lexus pulled off the side of the road. You don't see that in the area and it was the perfect robbery setup."

I'm paraphrasing, but that was gist of it. The guy simply said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.....definitely picked a bad area to pull over and take a nap.

In the series Costas and a few other reporters said there was zero credible evidence that implied his dad was killed because of his gambling.  During the 93 ECF against the Knicks Jordan took flack for heading to a casino with his dad in Atlantic City after losing a game in the garden.  Some reporters or news outlets wanted to make it a big deal but Jordan downplayed and said they were back hours before some news reports said.  That said history is written by the winners and there wasn't much in the series that implied Jordan's gambling was a problem nor was there trashing him for his off court life.  Financially at least he must have been alright since he's supposedly worth about 1.6B these days.

Prime:  Absentina  A FBI crime/kidnap thriller.  I thought season 1 was pretty phenomenal.  Season 2 was a good follow up.  Season 3 kind of lost it's way from the original premise but was still very good.  The last episode of Season 3 kind of went off the rails though.  It almost seemed like they don't know if the show will continue so they crammed an entire season into one episode.  Because you had some good story lines building up, but then they closed them quick.  I'd recommend it for season 1 and 2 though.
