So I finished the Tiger doc last night and talk about a perfect storm of egomaniacs, rednecks, animal right activists, social media, and an entire nation on lockdown that conspired to make the biggest viral sensation of the pandemic. Tiger King is easily the most interesting Netflix doc since Making A Murder.

I'll preface this by saying virtually everyone in this comes off looking bad. Still, there is something troubling about an outcome featuring big winners and big losers decided by our justice system that in no way aligns with how the doc portrays these people or the facts given in the show.

Spoiler

Ultimately I feel like Joe Exotic is a victim of his rapidly inflating ego combined with what appears to be a below average IQ. He conflated his internal view of himself with how others actually saw him, compelling him into starting a war with a sociopath in Carole Baskins. His crucial mistake is in believing that the average person would see Carole as a phony and that the people around him truly loved and cared for him. The sad reality was that the idea of animal rights makes people feel good and that being an egomaniacal asshole doesn't earn you many friends.

When you are put on the wrong side of public opinion, cause problems for the people around you, make enemies needlessly and say things that you shouldn't say then maybe getting sent to prison shouldn't come as a surprise. Still, I have a hard time seeing a murder for hire charge sticking when the man who orchestrated it and his friend who was meant to pull the trigger are informants. It may not be entrapment if the police aren't the ones orchestrating it, but it's the same damn thing.

Got through E5 today.

Man - drug cartel, heroin, gayness, and a titty bar. Lots going on. It’s interesting and you wonder how many balls he’ll have to juggle and for how long.

The plot keeps twisting.

Very well written show.

3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri = C

A promising premise that has absolutely no payoff at the end. There was redemption of sorts for the one cop, but the main character, the mom, was a very unlike able person who only got worse as the movie went along.

started a re-watch of lost last week.seemed appropriate since this whole thing is kind of like purgatory.

i was late to the party and didn't watch it for the first time until 2011 when it was already done with its original run.

i really didn't remember much of it, and i think season 1 has stood up pretty well.

also finally watched watchmen on hbo, and really enjoyed it.

Good to know. I was in the fence with this one and think Adam did a review of this when it was in theaters. One of those films I wasn’t sure about and have been procrastinating. Mainly around the award time when it was all the rage.

First thing I ever binge watched in the mid 00’s. Season 1 and 2 were some of the best writing/tv I’ve ever watched. I bought the boxed sets because I had way too much Best Buy gift card money. I never finished it and a friend gave me the rest of the rundown.

But I do remember being jaw dropped multiple times with this show.

Probably the last network tv show I ever watched.

Season one and two are pretty good, but it goes off the rails pretty hard and pretty quick after that.

Way off the rails.

Since it's not worth anyones time, I'm going to break my rule......although Cez kind of fucked it up anyway. With how the show goes and the ending.

Season 1 and 2 were beyond legit and had me start doing the "Just one more episode...." and six or eight hours later would crush a season. But then season 3 starts and they magically find a compound and a whole grip of people. Talk about jumping the shark. I stopped around some of the first part of season three. Same with The Walking Dead.....started good and just got ridiculous.

Peyton's Places - I caught a few episodes on ESPN this weekend.  Half hour topics with some good natured ribbing.

Peyton playing tackle football as a 3yo.

Talking to coach Billick about Hard Knocks.

Playing golf with Tom Brady and talking about the "Tuck" game against the Raiders.

I don't have ESPN+, so it was nice to be able to see some of the episodes.

You bet. The movie never really finishes the story. It’s weird and very unsatisfactory.

Still some fun stuff in the other seasons, though yeah, the writing went down for sure.  I'm in the final few eps of S3 right now, and it's still better than most stuff out there right now.

I didn't realize that a show that ended 10 years ago needed spoiler tags, but sorry if I ruined it for anybody.  Also, Sam and Diane don't get back together in the last ep of Cheers.  Oops, I forgot spoilers.

And I stopped The Walking Dead after season 1.  It was clear to me that while it was pretty darn good, there was nowhere for the show to really go after the finale that wasn't going to be awful....a lesson I kind of learned from Lost, ironically.
