Hot take alert.

Went back and re-watched The Phantom Menace for the first time since it it was new and it was better than The Last Jedi.

One day, someone is going to make an edit of the entire Star Wars 9 episodes.  They are going to cut out Jar Jar, 90% of pre DV Skywalker, most of Finn and Rose.  And it's going to be an amazing 9 episodes.  It'll probably be so short, it'll be like a 9 episode tv series.

Phantom Menace was cringy af but if you can forgive that aspect it has an OK story. Last Jedi wasn’t awkward so much as most of it was pointless and stupid.

Delete out Finn and Rose which was probably 1/3 of the movie, and Last Jedi isn't that bad.  Of course it's tough to block out that much of a movie when watching it.  Even at home.

Picard facepalm aside, agreed on Mangold.  He’s a consistent and underrated director.

thanks.

i'm pretty cynical, but i do really love hanks and rhys.  the rogers movie was saccharine. i don't expect a mafia movie regarding the guy, but i do expect at least a little nuance.  but then again, i'm not 14 years old anymore.

and yeah, i'm a huge mangold fan.  3:10 to Yuma has maybe Russell Crowe's and and Bales' best performances to date.  Mangold brought that out of with Witherspoon and Phoenix in Walk the Line. Matt Damon was incredibly smart to do one of his movies at this point in his career. Dude showed he can actually actfor the 2nd time (the first was The Martian...or maybe his faux Loki in Thor: Ragnarok) since The Talented Mr Ripley. I'll watch anything Mangold directs because he also surrounds himself with the best talent in Hollywood for every aspect of the movies he chooses to make from costumes, to cinematography, to everything.

dude.  exactly what i've said since it came out.  get rid of all of that, and it's not a terrible movie if you do a bunch of rewriting.  needed a little more legitimate training for Rey, but i can understand why Johnson didn't want to be accused of cookie cutting from Empire.

Rise of Skywalker spoilers below:

anybody see that Rise of Skywalker rumors say that Palpatine cloned himself because he knew Vader would betray him, and that he has been biding his time with Snoke as his surrogate until Rey and Ren confront him?  i've been watching rebels lately, and i'm really worried that Abrams will say that  palpatine somehow got access to the world between worlds and saw what happened in Return of the Jedi. if hundreds of Palpatine's star destroyers somehow come out of nowhere, it will be the worst fan fiction possible brought to the screen.  if leia and hux join to fight palpatine, then just wow.

someday werner herzog will know how to pick winners...that teenagers approve of.

coleman makes s3 of The Crown worth watching.  such a wonderful actor.  hard to believe the first time i saw here was in Hot Fuzz when i don't think she uttered a single word of discernible English

Oh yeah I totally agree. I can’t believe that sub plot actually made it into the finished movie. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, so it’s hard to remember but I seriously can’t recall what the story really was... it was a bunch of scenes cut together with no coherent direction.

The only worthwhile part of episodes 1-3 was Natalie Portman.

Ford v. Ferrari was fantastic. I'm not a fan of racing/cars, but it was still a fun watch. It sometimes felt a bit too polished and several of the characters were one-dimensional, but overall I really enjoyed it.

Have never seen Pinocchio so I watched it last night. Garbage. I’m sure for 1940 it was pretty good, but seeing it through the lens of 2019 wasn’t good.i knew elements of the story as well as all of the music, but I don’t think I liked anything about the actual story.
