the angels are one of the very top drawing teams in attendance figures every year. i doubt moreno or mlb are itching to vacate the area. that would be massively foolish.

And yet its happened how many times in SoCal history?  No not in MLB but still. The diea that someone wouldn't leave, is not realistic.
Time will tell, i hope im wrong, but if im him, yeah, im looking... from a purely business standpoint it makes absolute sense to check your options.

Arte isn't going anywhere. Orange County has over 3,000,000 people and Las Vegas has 2,000,000. That's before you factor in the IE. The average household income is $94k in OC and $60k in Las Vegas. The TV market is 17 million compared to 2 million. No one in CA gives subsidies for stadiums. Arte isn't going anywhere and the city can't do much with the land. I think they end up with a better deal for the city. One that's not so bad it requires bribing officials to get it through.

42 million people visit Las Vegas annually.

A casino would partner with the land and funding.  They may even get money from a hotel tax like they did with Allegiant.

If I was Arte, I am gone.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I think off the top of my head, the most likely scenarios are...

1. Arte and Angels win in court and the deal is restored.

2. After a lot of drama, Arte leverages the 2029/2039 lease dates to get generally the same deal.

3. Arte moves the team, but stays in So-Cal.

I still wouldn't rule out Vegas.  They will provide two things So Cal cannot.  Public funds to build a stadium, and an exclusive fanbase.  The reality is, we are in the shadow of the Latrine Asses.  And while the OC has the population, I wouldn't call them rabid fans.  Most of the population is probably indifferent to the Angels.

There is so much to do in OC.  Not so for locals in Vegas.

@ScottSted, it now seems like what you suggested earlier might be a little more likely.  In the letter that Shaikin links to, it does say that an affidavit states that the Mayor told an undercover informant that "an Angels representative" asked him, "What can we do for your election?," at which point the Mayor said, "Let me finish your deal and then we can talk about that."  So that's a little different from what had initially been reported.

how many times has it happened? san diego chargers drew poorly, and the area isn't able to secure the big money broadcasting rites because of the ocean/mexico/desert/LA. oakland/LA raiders? that would be a complex example. i'm sure i'm forgetting something, but who leaves LA and it's surrounding population? the angels draw over 3 million without even being good for ten years. that's a tall order to replicate in any other market and difficult to convince mlb of reason to abandon. i could easily see them do the long beach thing or what have you, but moving out of the area? no way they'd get permission.

Raiders (how many times now?), Rams.. it happens, people leave the LA market for various reasons.
MLB would approve a number of option in my opinion, especially for example Mexico City and/or likely Las Vegas.  Neither would even require any divisional issues as Mex City is as east as Texas.

I wonder where the Angels will be playing in '30...
They just torpedoed Artes master plan, im guessing hes already contacting Vegas or other areas dying for baseball.
Bravo Ana, when you lose the team, youll know who to blame.

Although we are still waiting to hear from the A's, a friend who knows a member of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board says that the city is not overly concerned about the A's decision, because "at least two more clubs" have expressed serious interest. I assumed that it was Tampa Bay (with a dreadful stadium and attendance situation) and Arizona (who already had discussions with the City of Henderson about building a ballpark next to the Raiders' practice facility). Maybe Moreno has called them. I honestly don't know, because the LVCVA isn't disclosing who they have talked to.
