So, we have a winner! 

 

I had 1975 on my mind the entire time btw...

 

1991 had my favorite three pitchers ever, but 1975 beats them by a slim margin. The Nolan and Clyde factor.

1975 (given how bad the hitting was) and 1991 (trio accounting for 2/3 of the team's 81 wins) were very impressive and each are deserving of recognition.

 

But when looking at all stats, 2011 stood out to me because that trio (Weaver, Haren, Santana):

a) Had pretty much the best ERA+ of any trio of Halos starters back to 1961.

Had just about double the Ks/BBs ratio of the 1991 and 1975 trios.

c) Had the best WHIP (average of under 1.10). 

d) Like with Abbott and Langston in 1991, Weaver and Haren were high up in Cy Young balloting.

 

Only in wins did they not match up to 1991, and only because Santana got a big lack of hitting support and finished just under .500 despite a 3.77 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.

Plus, Ryan kind of struggled in 1975, and missed 1/3 of his starts and had a near 1.50 WHIP.

I did hate seeing Figueroa and Rivers traded after 1975, although Bonds eventually netted the Halos one of the best players in franchise history in Brian Downing.
