That Bob Melvin situation was weird. He was still under contract with the A’s and the next thing you know the A’s let the Padres have him. Would they have let him go to a team in the same division?  Or would it be similar to the old adage that you don’t trade players to teams in your own division?

This is actually a pretty solid career move for him.  He will get to play everyday, make better money and maybe something clicks for him or he puts up gaudy numbers and a MLB team takes a one year flyer on him down the road.
