From the LA Times - Angels renew Mike Trout's contract, but there's little reward

AL rookie of the year will make $510,000, or about 4%, over the minimum in his second year, which his agent says is 'well short' of fair. Angels say the system values service time and 'we love Mike.'

PHOENIX — The Angels played hardball with Mike Trout by "renewing" the star outfielder's contract for $510,000 Saturday, a move they had every right to make but left a bitter taste in the mouth of Trout's agent and disappointed the 21-year-old phenom.

The only players the Angels give big money to are old and washed up ones who won a couple of gold gloves many years previous to signing. Trout has the disadvantage of being young and on the way up. He needs to be declining and old. Apparently one gets rewarded by our organization for what he does for other teams. If you gave your best, most productive years elsewhere, then you get the ridiculously lucrative contract!

There is nothing new to see here. Baseball players get paid for what they have done in the past, and with Trout, well not much has passed (1 year). This is not "pay for performance" by any means. Until this changes in baseball, there will be plenty of "injustices."

Tulowitzski and Longoria are laughing their ass off at this post.
