I'm very happy to see they signed Harrison. There's still some upside there. He hasn't busted yet.

He needed a change of scenery. The Markings bright him up too fast in 2019, then 2020 destroyed any sense of pattern he had, and he didn't 2021 just trying not to spiral. Get him at Salt Lake, remove any hype pressure because he's now in an organization with more hyped outfielders than anyone.

Morrison is a great defensive OF, and a fast, good base runner. Has enough pop to be a threat and keep outfielders honest. It's unlikely he'll ever fully resolve the contact issues, but I can think of worse options for 4th outfielder. Use him as a defensive replacement and pinch runner.

I had completely forgotten about Soriano.

His velocity returned before getting hurt again, but I hear the second surgery isn't any bigger than the first if they happen in close proximity because it likely completely fixes the issue. If they're separated by a length of time, it could be more of a fragility or chronic issue.

that's not a great collection of position players.  Excited to see Crow, Murphy, Silseth, Torres, Erla, Bush and Kerry though.  We're gonna find out pretty quick on Maitan and Soto if they can hang.

Bachman will also be there once he's healthy

probably our most intriguing roster.

Blakely, Vera, Placentia, Bonilla, Deveaux, Knowles, Ramirez, Quero.

Albright, Chaney, Garcia, Guanare (pretty much skipping rookie ball), Goff (repeating A ball even though he had a really decent year), Hidalgo, Salvador, Swanda, Von Scoyoc.

They're moving on a lot of these guys pretty quickly.  Albright got 8 innings in the ACL.

Hope they figured out how to broadcast all levels this year including the ACL.

Yes, they really seem to be pushing some guys, both to High-A and Double-A.

Agreed on Maitan and Soto. This is a big year for them on whether or not they can adjust and produce or are washing out of the system.

I still think that putting Maitan at 1B and simplifying his game would go a tremendous way to making him a better player all around.

They absolutely are pushing all the pitchers they drafted last year. Who they were looking at drafting and how they've handled them so far has been by design. It provides the team with the necessary depth while also statistically giving them them a probability that one or two of these guys will develop and stick.

It sets up draft classes in the subsequent years so that the Angels can start chasing upside or going with the best player available approach.

Since these are prospects and it's the farm, I'll stick with this theme for the analogy. It's like building and growing a garden, first thing is you need to pull all the weeds and clear the land. Then you plant the seeds and have nature do its work, with a Little help from you. Then you see what grows and what doesn't, maybe thinning out smaller plants, fertilizing larger ones. And eventually you're going to yield a crop. The best fruits and vegetables you'll keep for your family, and the surplus can be bartered or traded for something else of value.

Last year's draft was the weeding and clearing stage, just getting the guys necessary to even have a farm system, and not just a bunch of leftovers from other teams.

This year, they'll grab some decent prospects in the draft, combined with what is present already like Paris, along with the Dominican kids we just signed and that'll be the planting of seeds, which is a multi year process. In three or four years, the Angels will have themselves a solid farm system, and will compete in the major leagues and can begin trading prospects to supplement the roster again.

Minasian is playing the long game.

Feels like we’ve been saying this for 5 years now

I completely understand.

Dipoto completely ignored the farm and inherited a jackpot built by Stoneman and Reagins.

Eppler was left with the worst system in history, and did a decent job with acquiring high end prospects in the draft and internationally, but the system as a whole never improved, mostly because he completely went with "best player available" rather than targeting the specific organizational weakness, which is pitching.

Minasian grabbed nothing but pitchers, shoring up the farm as a whole. He's doing something new.
