OC Register: Angels, Noah Syndergaard reportedly agree on 1-year deal

Recommended Posts

The Angels have made their first move toward improving their pitching staff, taking a chance on a one-year deal with Noah Syndergaard, who is coming off Tommy John surgery.

The Angels and Syndergaard reportedly agreed to a $21-million salary for 2022, which is more than Syndergaard would have made if he’d accepted the $18.4 million qualifying offer from the Mets. ESPN’s Jeff Passan had the news of the deal, which has not been confirmed.

The Angels would surrender their second-round pick in the 2022 draft.

Syndergaard, 29, has the potential to be the ace the Angels have been missing. He has a career 3.32 ERA with the Mets, but he has pitched just two innings since 2019. He returned from Tommy John surgery last September and gave up two runs in two innings.

More to come on this story.
