Available starting pitchers for trade that you want the team to avoid?

I recently made a thread about free agent starters you want the team to avoid, but what about trade candidates?  Who do you want the team to avoid, based on either what you feel is an acquisition cost that won't be worth it, or someone you just don't expect to perform well over the course of their time with the Angels?  Please also only list players that are likely available AND that at least some on here would see as a valuable piece to add (no players that are either so bad or have such awful contracts that no team trying to win would think of acquiring)

I mean there aren't really a ton of available starting pitchers via trade that we're aware of right now (just the guys from CIN, MIA, and OAK as far as I'm aware)

Of those teams, I'd say Elieser Hernandez and Sean Manaea.

Neither of them have great stuff, and Hernandez hasn't really even had good performance at all.

Agree with Manaea!

Right now, I can only remember a few.. Lazardo from the Marlins, MADBUM, Boyd from the Tigers.

I was wondering if both teams would do a Upton for Madbum swap. Trade vetos aside, I think Dbacks would just to lower payroll. I don't think Angels should or would. I'd probably rather have Upton and Cobb rather than Madbum but it's tempting

I actually, deleted that (Trading Uptown for a bad contract possibly by Buying Out his No Trade and throwing some $$ in for it depending on what would come back). If it was a MADBUM for UPTOWN deal straight up. I might do that.

But, in the case you mentioned and I added.... Re-sign Cobb & Trade for Madbum for UPTOWN. Would make the team better and less grief trying to find him playing time. The More I consider it. That would work for me! Move Madbum to the bullpen.

Then sign either Stroman or Thor and Because I want more! Sign either Matz or Wood and your rotation is set.

1. Stroman/Thor

2. Ohtani

3. Madbum

4. Cobb

5. Matz/Wood

6. Sandavol, Canning, Barria, Junk, Suarez - Trade a couple for other needs. Whoever is left is your #6 guy.

I'm confused, even if for some reason the D-Backs would do a deal like that and Upton would waive his no-trade clause.  A) you say you'd want Bumgarner in the bullpen, but then he's also listed as your 3rd starter. B) Bumgarner is owed $37M in '23-'24 and he's been nothing special for the last couple years, so not sure that really helps the Angels have much flexibility.  C) I'm not even sure Upton would start for the D-Backs as they have 3 decent OFers under contract--and there's still no guarantee there will be a DH in the NL next season.

If his innings decreased across the remainder of the contract he could be a long man out of the pen.

Cheers!

I know we can't be picky, but I'm not up for trading valuable prospects for Sonny Gray. I know he's good, but I don't think he's what we're looking for. Castillo, Marquez, Marlins young guys, Gallen, all yes. Gray I say no.

I think Gallen is the perfect guy to aquire. Dodgers, Giants, and Padres have to make AZ think now is not their window to win.

For me, it depends on the prospect cost. If it's a package around Jackson or Adams, I'd do it. I'm not trading Adell, Detmers, or Marsh for him.

I think there would be some concern about him going from the NL Central to the AL West.

Reds park is a hitters park, but the offense in the AL West should be much better than the NL Central.
