How aggressive do you expect Minasian to be this offseason?

What are the chances that one of the off season objectives is to extend Ohtani?  If they are looking at the long term future of the franchise that would seem to be on the list.  Perhaps that would qualify as a Bold / Aggressive move.

Probably a real good chance. But any extension would start in '23. They will more than likely divert the money that has been going to Upton, to Ohtani. So it won't affect the '22 budget.

Better health will solve a lot of our problems.  Hopefully, Canning will solve his issues, and Sandoval will come back as good or better than he was this year.

Rendon and Trout for full seasons will solve the offensive problems.

Re-sign Iglesias, and say goodbye to most of the rest of our bullpen, and we're golden.

Maybe they'll see their mistake and fire Perry and Joe together. Then leave Mr. Moreno in charge of rebuilding the roster. That should make a lot of folks happy here.

The above bit of insanity is for entertainment purposes only.

There’s no reason to fire Perry.

Yes, the GM is given a budget - all GMs are. It's then up to them how the utilize it.

But when the owner has a thing for big money sluggers, makes it much more difficult to spend on pitching.

That’s the problem with Moreno, staying in budget, signing mainly sluggers, and then expecting the team to contend without enough pitching.

The definition of insanity, doing that year after year after year.

I still think Canning doesn’t have the durability to be a starter, long term.

Could be a solid late innings guy/multi-innings guy?

Again, he was willing to pay Cole $280 million.

And instead of punting after losing out on Cole, he pays another $245 million out to a 30 year-old 3B which messed up the chance to sign another strong pitcher the following off-season.

How is that $245 million working for the Halos so far?    Can’t sign a proven starter now, and fix the pen and SS,  without going over budget.

You realized we haven’t had a good third baseman in ages, right?

The problem the last six or seven years has been the number of holes on the roster that need filling. Wins in the market cost around $8 mil each, which means you are looking at $20 mil for league average production or you're going to have to cut some corners. Just about every year we've needed to find a couple of starting position players, a second catcher a couple of starting pitchers and bullpen guys.

In a lot of ways Eppler and Minasian have always been destined for failure. The team is only likely to succeed when the homegrown talent can support the franchise on their own.
