What is the combined salaries of Pujols, Rendon, Trout, and Upton and the combined total on-the-field production from these four?

Bright side, they’re finally rid of two of those contracts a year from now.

Trout and Rendon had better not have any more seasons for the next few, where they miss at least half the season!

Upton finishes this year with a -0.6 bWAR and is getting 28 million to be the 4th outfielder next year. Thanks Eppler!

I'm pretty sure the Upton deal was universally loved at the time. Some other team would have given him a similar deal. No one predicted his injury-fueled decline.

Fixed for maximum accuracy.

Those four plus Fowler are about $135 million.

Total bWAR: 0.3

Trout put up 1.8 bWAR in his 36 games. Everyone else ranges from Zero (Rendon) down to -0.7 (which Pujols somehow managed to accomplish in only 24 games).

(Disclosure: I am terrible with numbers.)

I think another silly narrative is Arte signs big bats because it puts butts in seats.

I guess once he finally brings in a rock solid FA starter instead of a FA slugger, that’s when the narrative goes away.

Until then, it’s been going on 11 years since Nibs was signed, and then no one since then of any note.

In the meantime, Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, and Rendon = $705 million for not a whole lot of production with just Upton’s season and Rendon’s 5 seasons remaining.
