I'm fine with both of the trades that were made today, given that neither guy would be back next season and the Angels got a volume of interesting-if-unspectacular guys back.  But aside from maybe seeing Detmers in the rotation to replace Heaney, I'm not sure these moves (or the moves that weren't made) make fans any more excited about the rest of the season.  Seems like the Angels run a realistic risk of being 8+ games back from the 2nd WC if/when Trout, Rendon, and Walsh come back.  That won't exactly make for an exciting finish, plus there won't be any new players to focus on/get interested in.

I still would have preferred a bigger sell-off, but as others have mentioned, that's just not the Angels' style and it doesn't look like it ever will be under this ownership.

Really just an unacceptably bad deadline for this organization. Being a .500 team is literally an organizational philosophy at this point.

From Heaney's point of view.

He goes to a new organization short term. Real pressure and playoff expectations. More scrutiny than in Anaheim.

If he plays decently in a short fiftyish game season his future looks intriguing. His Angel past will be forgotten. A big career opportunity for him by just not sucking and proving he still has  a degree major league talent. Stronger motivation with a team that wants him. A fresh start thousands of miles away.

Likely he won't find a small niche role like Pujols with the Dodgers, but you never know.

All in all a good move for the Angels. He never would have rebounded in the same environment.

It seems like they do this every year. That one year they traded Fuentes for Longboi and that was it. Like they can only kind of sell, but not really.

Maybe it's Arte??

You're right this organization has been in a position to liquidate for several years now..Rightfully so but our GM's don't pull the trigger.

I'm not talking about a complete rebuild...but I think there has been opportunity to improve the overall success of this team via trades at the deadline that have been missed....No im not naming them.

So maybe it's Arte....selling hurts his bottom line for the immediate year.

Just speculation, but Arte may be concerned about the dime over the dollar

25-year old Janson Junk was drafted by the Yankees in the 22nd round of the 2017 MLB draft and has done well so far in his career through his time in the Yankees’ minor league system. Since 2017 he is 16-15 combined in the minor leagues with a 3.72 ERA, one save, and 230 strikeouts over the course of 254.1 innings pitched.

Junk spent the 2021 season with Double-A Somerset where he has a 1.78 ERA and 4-1 record over the course of 14 games played and 65.2 innings pitched. He has recorded 68 strikeouts this season with Somerset. He was the No. 27 prospect on New York’s Top 30 prospects list before being traded to the Angels.

Pinstriped Prospects’ own Matt Kardos recently did an exclusive interview with Junk in which they discussed how Junk was an “under-the-radar” prospect coming into the 2021 season. That mantra seemed to change this season as Junk was named the Double-A Northeast League’s pitcher of the Month in June. Most recently after that, in the last 11 games he has pitched for Somerset, Junk had a 1.46 ERA.

Junk was a prospect took pride in working hard and he discussed with Kardos the work he put in this offseason to prepare to be the best athlete possible in 2021. Checkout the full interview with Junk on pinstripedprospects.com.

Peguero, 24, has been with the Yankees organization since 2016. He has split the 2021 season between High-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset. Combined between High-A and Double-A, Peguero has a 4-1 record and a 2.23 ERA. He has 57 strikeouts over the course of 44.1 innings pitched.

While Peguero isn’t a prospect many hear about, the 2021 season appeared to a be a breakout season for the 24-year old. He’ll look to keep that momentum going as he transitions with Junk to the Angels’ minor league system.

Outside of this year with Iglesias,  Heaney and Cobb

When did the Angels actually have attractive trade assets?
