From the article:

Lovegrove worked as a Lyft and Uber driver and as a warehouse worker for UPS and Best Buy in the offseason to supplement his minor league income and maintain his career pursuit in baseball.

How insulting…….to be in a similar position as many teachers needing a second job to make ends meet.

Once again, happy medium.  They should be given a livable wage or at least housing during the season.

I don’t know what they make or what their per diem is as a minor league player. Any idea?

This guy has made 1/2 a million dollars playing baseball and he has to work as a driver?

Yeah, I'm thinking he's made some terrible decisions along the way.

If he makes it to the majors but what if he doesn’t?

Put me in jail too.  I must be guilty of not providing a suitable living condition for my teenage kids because they go to Taco Bell.

We all lived like that in college.

The difference is we weren’t trying to excel in a sport, where conditioning is important.

The guy even said that the other 4 orgs he’s been in were a lot better at it.

It doesn’t matter what bonus the player gets, if the conditioning, nutrition, and living conditions aren’t sufficient.   College athletes don’t sleep 6 to a room.

Penny wise and pound foolish. Arte is not cheap but he wins the Chairman Mao Misallocation of Resources award.

Sleep and nutrition are the two most important factors in avoiding injury and recovering from injury. Lack of proper sleep (slow wave 0.5 to 4 HZ in particular) is absolutely vital. It doesn't just happen. I notice a huge difference between 30 minutes and 2 hours of deep sleep.

Eating garbage fast food while trying to recover from the previous start? A starting pitcher loads and unloads huge forces into muscles, tendons, ligaments about 100 times. Some damage is done no matter what. There aren't any magical mechanics that can avoid it. The pitchers who heal completely between starts are those who avoid injury. Yes, there is almost certainly a genetic component but hitting the vital sleep/nutrition part should be easy.

Humans can only make about 3 grams of glycine per day (even assuming plenty of sleep and abundant essential aminos). Is that enough for an athlete to rebuild after a start. I doubt it but why risk it? Steak is cheap compared to TJ surgery. Feed these guys.

Even ignoring the human side of it, these are multimillion dollar investments at stake. I doubt the bean-counters thought this one through.
