i wonder how much influence the home improvement and flipping shows on HGTV have on the market. That seems to be a major focus of several of their shows, and their approach is to push the price envelope as much as they can on a project when completed. How many people are out there today flipping homes thinking this'll be their chance to really cash in?

i live in a rental one-story house, 3B 2Ba, about 1700 sq. ft. It needs new wiring, a new panel, insulation inside the plaster walls, and probably new plumbing. Because the market is so nuts, our house is listed as being worth roughly 900k. This is outrageously overpriced, but that's the neighborhood we're in, which isn't all that impressive a neighborhood. None of the houses from the outside are impressive, and you wouldn't think you were on a street with real estate that high.

Actually Zillow has been pretty active in the flipping scheme, buying up under valued homes before they hit market, doing a surface reno then flipping them at above current neighborhood values and changing the market.

I wouldn't trust them or any flipped home to have any of the true structural problems taken care of and just covering over them. There is no money in fixing foundation and seasonal water leaks.

A lot of the market also has to do with China.  All their rich are buying up properties in cash, creating an EB-5, and getting a green card.

Good news guys! I worked a little extra harder this week, so I'm now 0.00000000004% closer to being a billionaire.

And  0.0000000000000000001% closer to buying a home.

Sorry Taylor, couldn't resist.  It actually sucks that the market is so bonkers that you can't get a place.

Good plan.  The square footage you’ll need for your Joe McDonnell frame by that time will be enormous.  You won’t get that in California.  The downside, obviously, is what the Midwest diet will add to your girth.

I hate you and love you at the same time

Bad news, folks. I was lazy for an hour today, so now I'm back to square one. I'll work twice as hard next week, I promise.

Some dumb jackass paid $1.8 million for that dump.

Meanwhile in Roanoke at about $1.4 million you get 9,278 sqft and an acre of land.

Billiard table?  That almost looks big enough to have my own Top Golf setup.

Yeah, but Roanoke is cursed. There's a whole season of American Horror Story about it.
