My guess is that that ship has sailed, given the botched interview/consideration for the GM gig.

Well, he didn't get the GM gig, then left the announcing job that he'd claimed he loved for a long time to become the GM of a minor league team (which is a very different type of role from a major league GM).  So, yeah, botched in the sense of things didn't exactly work out.

Isn't it possible they are just filling the void until Matt Vasgersian is free of his other contractual duties? I'm assuming that's who they want going forward if they can have him, but he isn't available for every game yet. Maybe by next season.

Maybe, but if that's the case, it's never been made clear.  If that was the plan, I don't know why they wouldn't just announce it.  It would actually seem like a step down for Vasgersian, given his national exposure--but if it's what he wants, great.  I just haven't read or heard anything that indicated that.
