That's kind of ... weird ... he won't discuss it until after the signing deadline?

That can be interpreted in a number of ways ...

TJ is one thing - but there are worse possibilities ...

It reads really weird you're right...  So either they will be reassuring fans everything is fine or they'll be explaining why he went back to school.  Either way they are being very careful not to cross any lines by disclosing medical info and getting popped for it.

Imagine the shitshow if this happened to us.

Although the Mets probably have worse luck with their pitching health, tbh.

For sure. We’d hear how dumb Minasian is and that there were warning signs with his drop in velocity. It’s basically the same as how dumb Minasian was for drafting Bachman.

That's convenient.

He didn’t participate in Major League Baseball’s voluntary MRI program, by which the top 50 pitching prospects are asked to undergo the test prior to the draft. Boras relies on his own team of medical experts to evaluate all of his players and has proactively alerted clubs of potential physical issues, such as when the Mets selected his advisee Matt Allan in the third round of the 2019 amateur draft.

I wonder if the velocity drop plus the above made him a DND on the Angels list.

Probably raised the risk level for many - that's likely why he dropped.

Drafting someone knowing they needed TJ is something you can evaluate and make a decision on.  Hiding it, probably a lot of teams were concerned about what they didn't know - is it tendinitis?  Does he need TJ?  Is it career-threatening?

Hard to tell - is the issue "money" - maybe he needs TJ and the Mets feel they're owed a discount - or is the elbow issue career-threatening?

What would you argue if you represented Rocker?

That it is “normal” these days for pitchers to at some point need either TJ or close to it, so that the Mets should have expected this either now or in the future, therefore there is no reason to sign at a discount.

It would be fun to hear the conversations.

Really glad they went with Bachman, he's clearly the better investment when all things are considered. And Kumar Rocker being the ESPN darling is just a puff piece really. Big East coast kid, throws hard, was already a first round pick, plays for their favorite school at Vandy and if we are being honest, in today's culture, he's just easier to market.

It had less to do with on the field performance. Don't get me wrong, he's worth the pick, and I ranked him above Bachman, but is he with 6 million and the headache that comes with the additional media coverage and expectations, to go along with a not completely clean bill of health?

No way.

Bachman is a safe pick. You can be relatively certain he's either a really good starter or elite reliever.
