The pitching duel proved to come true.   Gausman was more economical with his pitch count (85 vs 105) through 6 innings.

Ohtani has an 2.58 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and has fanned 82 batters in 59.1 innings to go along with 23 HR's, tied for the MLB lead.

This is the first time Ohtani has thrown 100 pitches since his TJ surgery. That was quite the hurdle to clear.

It often happens like that after getting out of a jam. Adrenaline, confidence, increased focus? Who knows, but it is definitely a thing.

Ohtani doesn't need to do a lot more to impress the MVP voters. But if he builds a more substantial won/loss record his credentials will be even more amazing. He has all the right numbers in the main categories, but a simple thing like won/loss totals is always the first stat that shows up on a pitcher's stat line.

He can't control how the Angels offense does when he starts, or if the relievers will hold, but he should have at least double digit wins to solidify the pitching side of his season. Hitting side he is fine. 35 + homers, 270ish average, double digit steals, 80 + RBIs will be more than enough. 

His pitching more than neutealizes the batting average advantage of Vlad Jr.
