I don’t think we are in on Max. I think maybe Seattle is a wild card. He reportedly will not waive his NTC to New York.

So…Dogs, Giants, or Pads?

We are in on Max if the front office believes he can be a TOR starter for the next two years.

If they believe that, there would be no reason to not be in on him.

His deferred $105M through 2028 is why the Angels probably wouldn't want him.

Nats will likely cover a chunk, but Arte doesn't want to pay pitchers like that.

When they defer money they defer a certain amount per year of the contract I read the deferment for 2021 is $11 million of his 2021 salary.  So the rest is owed by the team who he played for the year of the deferment.

As for whether or not the Angels are in on Max kind of depends on Max.  I read that he wants to play on a team that can win now.  I’m guessing that’s SD, SF or LA.

Seems unlikely he'd want to come here now - we're too far back.

Next year should look much more promising for him and the team.

The deferred money is just a detail that has to be managed in the deal.  No team is going to accept responsibility for compensation that was tied to his years with the Nats.

Baseball Trade Values website updates...pretty fair deals for these too.

  • Michael Givens (0.50) for Noah Davis (0.7) and Case Williams (0.1)
  • Tyler Anderson (1.7) for Carter Bins (1.8) and Joaquin Tejada (0.1)

For sake of comparison and our how own would match up with those returns, Heaney is at 3.6, Cobb is at 3.8, Bundy is at 0.3, Quintana at -1.3. Raisel Iglesias is at 1.4, which I don't think is accurate. Watson at 0.7 is the next valuable vet rental RP.

Probably.  But he also may view playing for the Angels the next couple of years as a viable winning spot.  There is a lot of talent on the team.

I agree.  I’m sure the Angels agree.  Hopefully Max agrees.

Doesn’t a lot of Marte’s value come from being a good defensive CFer?  They have Laureano who is really damn good.

He's been a LFer for most of his career and his bat has been really good this year.   OPS+ was near 140, OBP machine.

No idea what they gave up but this is a really good get for the A's.
