Canning now has more decent/solid starts (6) than mediocre/poor starts (5).

Even better, it’s (5) and (2) in the past 7 starts.

But you need a leader for the SP and that would be Heaney.  Solid guy.  Not an ace but a leader none the less.  And on any given day….  I’d be fine with him as the third starter in the playoffs.

So how much do you pay him. I think he will test FA because Maddon has pulled him early in so many games. Ohtani would be your ace. Maybe Chris Rod becomes a starter along with Detmers.

Heaney has only had one real bad outing, the first one against the ChiSox (3 innings, 7 ERs).

Since then in 54 innings, 3.50 ERA

Main issue is continuing to improve on the innings pitched.
