10 day suspensions coming for all pitchers caught using sticky substances

the optimist in me is thinking that the issue they had with their clubhouse guy enacted a preemptive change for halo pitchers and that their high walk rate is somewhat related to that.  While they wait for the rest of the league to follow suit.  It could even explain to some degree why they're missing location and their defensive metrics aren't working like they used to.  I know that's likely bullshit but anything to hang one's hat on at this point right?

This is interesting.

That Bauer video i posted a few months back. He almost made it seem like he was doing it to make Cole look bad. Like... basically confessed to this.

Will be interesting to see if it truly is enforced, and how much some (if not most) guys regress

Bauer showing that he is cheating is like me proving that I cheated when I took a test for another person in school and handed him that test in front of like a dozen of other people. I'm glad that the Angels gave the cheater the L earlier this season at Angel Stadium. The guy does nothing but beg for attention. I guess when you're a mediocre pitcher without cheating, you're going to do whatever it takes to get attention out of desperation.

Because the issue isn’t batters getting an edge.

Both have access to the tech in the dugout. Though i'm sure batters use it more. If MLB is worried then i'm just saying they need to level the playing field.

If batters can get an edge using tablets while a new pitcher comes in or can review their AB between innings then let the pitchers get an edge with extra spin. Why not?...

Plus, batters getting an edge (Astros 2017) clearly has never been an issue to MLB. But God forbid a pitcher uses some pine tar.....

Well when strike outs happen more than hits then yes god forbid the game try to improve. I recently read that it’s almost 12 minutes or play between hits and almost four minutes between balls put in play.  To me, watching video of arm slot is completely different than doctoring a baseball.  But that’s just my opinion.

Good point. I've been having a tough time with Manfred. Baseball hasn't looked the same....

I don’t like most of what he’s done but this started way before him. I don’t like 3 batter minimum or runner on second.  I really like 7 inning double headers.

Yup i love the 7 inning rule and I'm for the runner on second. It makes things interesting immediately.
But yeah, 3 batter minimum, the so called "pitch clock" is a joke and those damn shifts are annoying the hell out of me. Feels like a rover in a softball game.

MLB: "Yeah.... Let's ban sticky substances so pitchers can have the edge and we can generate more offense"
Also MLB: "Yeah... The shift is okay so you can take offense away"

You realize that Manfred has nothing to do with the shift right?  One is enforcing a rule, the other is creating a rule.  They are different and to me I would be in favor of both.

Hate the runner on second rule, I do quite like the 3 batter minimum though as it stops the late innings being a revolving door of one out specialists that slow what should be the climax of the game to a crawl. Unless there is a better idea to stop that happening?

Well I think we will see a limit to how many pitchers are on the roster.

https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/06/04/sticky-stuff-is-the-new-steroids-daily-cover

"From the dugout, players and coaches shake their heads as they listen to pitchers’ deliveries. “You can hear the friction,” says an American League manager. The recently retired pitcher likens it to the sound of ripping off a Band-Aid. A major league team executive says his players have examined foul balls and found the MLB logo torn straight off the leather.

In many clubhouses across the sport, the training room has become the scene of the crime: Pitchers head in there before games to swipe tongue depressors, which they use to apply their sticky stuff to wherever they choose to hide it, then return afterward to grab rubbing alcohol to dissolve the residue. Even that is not always sufficient. One National League journeyman reliever, who says he uses Pelican Grip Dip, a pine tar/rosin blend typically used by hitters to help grip their bats, has been flagged at airport security. ...

As MLB dawdles, and batting averages dwindle, the use of substances has become all but institutionalized. One NL reliever, who says he does not apply anything to the baseball because sticky stuff disrupts the feel of his sinker, says his pitching coach suggested this year that he try it. An AL reliever, who says he uses a mixture of sunscreen and rosin, recalls a spring-training meeting in 2019 in which the team’s pitching coach told the group, “A lot of people around the league are using sticky stuff to make their fastballs have more lift. And if you’re not using it, you should consider it, because you’re kind of behind.” The clubhouse attendants of at least one minor league team, according to a player, stock cans of Tyrus Sticky Grip, another product intended to keep hitters from accidentally flinging their bats, and distribute them to pitchers who ask. The NL reliever who uses Pelican says he played for a team that hired a chemist—away from another club—whose duties include developing sticky stuff.

An SI analysis of Statcast data suggests that one team in particular leads the industry in spin: the defending world champion Los Angeles Dodgers."

That might help, but surely the clubs would just stock AAA with their one-out specialists and have a revolving door between the team and AAA almost daily. What is it about the three batter minimum that you don't like?

I hate the fucking net they have at the stadium. It really obstructs the view of the field. Fuck Manfred.
