No fire on this team, who can light it up?

The second half of 2021 will really be a lot of fun and show some of the fire we are seeking.

In August, I expect you'll see Trout back in CF, Adell in LF and Marsh in RF. We'll see Matt Thaiss behind the plate where his bat actually plays, and Luis Rengifo up playing either SS or 2B. I also expect to see Reid Detmers in the rotation and a slough of minor league relievers getting an audition for a team with no hope at making the playoffs.

Furthermore, the trade deadline should be interesting. You have to think the Angels will be dangling Bundy, Heaney, Quintana, Cobb, Iglesias, Suzuki, Claudio, Upton and really anyone else not part of the rebuild Minasian will be in charge of overseeing.

We might see a few interesting prospects head the Angels way after the trade deadline. And the draft, Angels have an early pick this year and probably and even higher one next year.

Those that like prospects should enjoy July onward.

I don’t think most of those guys will get traded. What contending team would want those players you’ve listed?

Well, it has become evident that when the game gets down to a battle of the bullpens we are sorely overmatched.  Hunter Strickland is a good example.  We aren't going to find good arms this way.  With Jo Adell's resurgence, we just might have to trade him (or Walsh).  Ohtani needs to be able to pitch every fifth day, its just too much strain on our staff to have him pitch every two weeks.  We might be better off moving him to the outfield which, long-term, would leave us with Trout, Ohtani, Marsh, and Adell.  One of those guys just might have to go.

Here is his list of solutions, you decide which ones are good and which ones are bad.

Sign Petit

Sign Odorizzi

Sign Yates

Sign Rosenthal

Trade Trout

Draft a catcher

Have the media ask better questions

Petit 6 wins all of angel starters 7. Odorizzi, Yates and Rosenthal all before season started when halos had hope. Trade Trout after season started as hope for this season and next 2 to 3 seasons is gone.

All the "Fire" in the world will quickly be extinguished when you have the worst ERA in MLB , and the most errors.  Add to that, too many guys in the lineup are hitting below the Mendoza/ Mathis line. Changes need to be made. With Trout missing at least 1/3 of the season, this team isn't going anywhere but down. Once they go down in the standings by a dozen games, the sell off should start. Quite a few on the roster are on expiring contracts. Start selling them off for prospects. Give Upton the "Pujols" treatment. Start implementing the offseason plan, targeting the players to go after in trades/free agency. And don't screw up the draft. Get more eyes on the college guys.  The best way to light a fire is winning.

The team doesn't need a fire - it needs a new owner .  An owner who realizes pitching wins games even when your team struggles at the plate .  You must over spend on the top pitching free agents - make them offers they can't refuse and with a few solid starters who can give you 6-7 innings per start things would change . The culture would change to a more winning nature and you would not have to over spend anymore as the team became more successful .

Moreno clearly is a dinosaur who doesn't feel paying a player who only performs 35 games a year is worth 25 -35 million a year .. Position players he will pay top dollar for but not pitchers .  So Trout has ZERO chance making a play-off before he hits early 30's .

Of the starting staff -how many are under contract after this year ??? Is it 2 or 3 ? The reason is lack of belief in the clowns the Angels roll out there each start .  Until you develop pitching or buy it -the Angels will be a joke . Getting regularly beat by teams with half the payroll .... Ridiculous !!

I agree with a lot of this, and that Arte is the main problem. I honestly think he's an older man who is comfortable counting his hundreds of millions and doesn't care very much about the success of the team.

Someone would bite on one of the starting pitchers. You wouldn't get a ton in return, but you can probably get a Packy Naughton type of prospect.

They'd take a flyer on Iglesias too. He's a shortstop that can swing a little bit. He could probably secure a utility role. Suzuki may also interest someone as a backup catcher. Those type of deals can actually net you an underrated prospect of you're negotiating with a team that has a need and a deep farm. Remember when we scored Patrick Sandoval for dealing Martin Maldonado?

You're probably right about Upton though. It's hard to make deals like that mid season, and it's unlikely he'd go to a contender. I imagine during the winter, if he sat the bench in August and September of the previous season he may wave his NTC.

These aren't exciting prospects you'd get in return, but they would be the sort that could end up helping your bullpen a year or two down the line.
