...the Angels didn't extend Bundy. What a bust - I guess 2020 was not the breakthrough we hoped for. 6.02 ERA through 8 starts.  I know, I know: a 4.05 FIP, but...

Who are they going to replace him with ? They probably need to bring him back.  At least now they won’t have to pay him like he’s an all star.

I thought this was a .500 team at it's worst.  They just suck right now

Yeah, me too. I thought the wide range was 80-95, with 87 the median and my optimistic prediction being 91.

I still think they’ll end up being about a .500 team.

Yeah, but that's the problem. They suck and then scramble back to mediocrity and we're left with a decent but not great draft pick and the perennial delusion that we're just a few savvy moves away.

So far Minasian's tenure has been an extension of Eppler's. Similar moves yielding similar results.

The more things change the more they remain the same, that's the halo way

We’ll get a top 3 draft pick at this rate.

Don’t get me wrong.  If they’re not going to be good, I’d prefer that they just be very bad.  We won’t be that lucky.

Nah. There are shittier teams out there.

Maybe, but they have exciting young kids to keep their fans entertained and give them hope for the future. What do we have ahead of us? The downslope of Trout & Rendon's careers and...not much else. Even Adell & Marsh, who were supposed to be "can't miss" prospects, are...missing.

Bundy turned back into Bundy.  I am not really shocked.  His breakout seemed like Cinderella and midnight was always coming.

Optimistically it looks like he is perfectly capable of logging some really good starts. But objectively I am not expecting great overall results.

And this is more or less true about just about the entire starting pitching staff.

When you realistically should not expect great overall results, you are going to end up without great overall results over a long 162 games.

This isn’t brain surgery.

The frustration is this analysis is nothing new.  Did we really have to burn another season to know this?

As I was saying.

6.50 ERA now. 6.50!

Bundy essentializes the Angels this year. The question before the start of the year was whether he could sustain his 2020 performance and establish himself as a true #2, or if he would drop back to his #4 status of previous years. He's actually become far worse than even that. Is he broken?
