Rangers claim Jack Kruger

We're going to regret this when he comes back and hits .214

I don't think anyone is claiming this is going to make or break the season.  It's just weird, that's all.

This will probably be entirely inconsequential because Kruger was likely at best a 3rd string AAAA type back-up, like Graterol or Bemboom, so not really a big deal, but it does almost sort of feel like it was a bit of a rookie GM mistake, losing a young org catcher when not really necessary.

Yeah, that's exactly my take.

LOL at "rookie GM mistake."

??? What’s so funny? Don’t think a front office could slip up?

I see it as a GM equivalent to something like this: https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/joe-girardi-mistake-phillies-bullpen-sam-coonrod-brewers

I don’t mean that Perry literally filed the wrong paperwork per se, but between Bemboom being injured or other logistics that prevented the Angels from getting Butera a day earlier or another catcher into playable depth cost them Kruger, and inexperience might have been a factor there.

It's nothing personal.  It just struck me as funny.  I don't know you from Adam. Maybe you're right.  I really don't know.  It just seems unlikely that was the case, IMO.  I would guess, anytime a GM DFA's a guy, they weigh the risk of losing him.  Just because it doesn't make sense to us, doesn't mean it was a well thought out action.  That's all.

Just now, Lou said:

The guy had an OPS of .609 . . .

Butera has a career .549 OPS in the majors, has negative career WAR, and will be 38 in August.

Again, no one is saying this is a huge deal one way or the other.  As I've said like 53 times, it's just an odd/seemingly pointless move.  That's all.

I know, I’m just messin’

As I said, I think the actual action of Kruger being DFAed wasn’t a mistake, so much as was the series of events that led up to this happening, and the result of it being something that Minasian would look at a week later and think he might’ve been able to do something differently.

In the end I don’t think it’ll matter much. Kruger is interchangeable.
