OC Register: Alexander: For Mike Trout, Albert Pujols’ departure was a personal loss

I’ll laugh if this is a contributing factor to Trout requesting a trade down the line.  And again, you guys didn’t expect Trout would be pissed off his mentor was (for many observers) just dumped?

Trout is friends with the guy and been his teammate for years.  What do you expect Trout to say: "Albert had an amazing HOF career, but he's sucked the past 5 years.  Just look at his negative WAR.  We are better without him. "

No.  He's being respectful.  I'm sure he understands that Ohtani/Walsh are better and we need more roster flexibility on the bench than an old guy you can only play 1B.  If he doesn't -- that's his fault...not the Angels FO fault.

Yes exactly.  And honestly Mike Trout should not need a mentor in the dugout at this point in his career.

I liked having Albert Pujols here, but really, the contract was 2 years too long, at least.

Albert should have retired gracefully at the end of the 2019 season, but he chose to hang on, as most great players have.

I wish him all the luck in continuing his career, but I am happy that the Angels organization did what they did, and I believe the decision was the correct one.

If Albert was willing to accept a bench role than what the Angel's did was shameful.

If, as reported, Albert wanted a full time role them the Angel's did Albert s favor.   Fact is Walsh deserves to be at 1b over Albert.   Ohtani is showing he can bat every day at DH.  Ward (and Thaiss) need their chance to show what they can do.

Pump the brakes a minute.  Albert can play 3rd base as well as 1st.

You seriously believe the Trout prioritizes having his "mentor" on the team over winning games?
