The big inning

The Angels have given up 3 or more runs in 24 of the 238 total innings they've pitched this season.  Or in about 10% of their innings.  League wide it happens in about 5.7% of innings.  

The next closest team I could find were the Rangers who've done it 19 times.  

18 of the 24 times have happened within the first 6 innings. 

86 of the 148 runs they've allowed have come in those 24 innings.  Which means they've got a 2.6 era in 214 of their innings.  

Is this pitching coach related?  Managerial?  Is it pitch calling or game planning?   

How is that our pitchers lose their minds for an inning so much more often than on other teams?  Heaney, Quintana, Canning, Cobb, even Ohtani will all completely lose their stuff for these short bursts yet otherwise look really good.  If they were just bad, how are they doing so well otherwise?

Interested to see what bad defense/BAbip would be in those instances compared to the rest. 

Defense has seemingly been a huge letdown again.

Fielding has something to do with it.

WTF is Iglesias’ problem?   Wasn’t he supposed to be solid defensively?

Rendon missing so much time has been a big part, and Pujols' defense has been awful at 1B. We lost a lot on the infield with Walsh going to RF.

We've had several costly miscues by pitchers and catchers as well.

I like Iglesias, but I can't help but wonder what someone like Kolten Wong would've done to help 2B with Fletcher moving to SS for a couple years...

Seems like Marsh always has a nagging injury. Shoulder still not right.

I've been very disappointed with Suzuki. His fielding and throwing has been terrible and his work behind the plate is bang average at best. I'd be interested to see how many of those big innings Suzuki was catching for.

So glad Stassi has turned out to be so good on both sides of the ball.
